Overview

Statistics is the body of scientific principles and methodologies that are used to extract useful and comprehensive information from data to draw conclusions about any phenomenon and is a discipline that studies the best ways of dealing with randomness, or more precisely and broadly, variation. The Department of Statistics is the deep interplay between application, computation and theory, as well as the backbone of data science. It renders a good combination of pure and applied statistics with software skills, enabling students to successfully participate in professional life by gaining knowledge.

Today's world has seen unprecedented events. The pandemic has forced us to invent new tools and techniques to overcome and emerge successfully out of this scenario.

Statistics is used in practically every field of life. From a small decision to a large scale policy, the knowledge of Statistics helps in understanding, analysing as well as taking good, solid decision, with scientific techniques and theory. The world today, driven by a surge of data, much of it which is unfiltered, needs a statistician to make sense of it. Software can help in analysis but to draw conclusions, we need statisticians. The Department is focused on facilitating students to understand theory as well as apply it to real life situations.

The Department of Statistics intends to provide effective education including excellent training in scientific data collection, data management, methods and procedures of data analysis in different areas of Statistics in UG level. For this, we are striving to make our courses challenging, relevant, and innovative to enrich the minds of the students in order to enable them to excellence.

The department takes initiatives for overall development of students and give thempractical orientation to inculcate employability skills which will help them to face this competitive world. The department activities conducted are focused on impartingtechnical knowledge along its application in the practical world. Simultaneouslypersonality development of students is also given priority.
